Pianist Jon Birkholz is a graduate of the jazz program at Peabody Conservatory. Lately, he has performed at a wide variety of venues, ranging from opening for Mos Def with his band Soul Cannon to premiering original music at local hot spot The Windup Space.   Jon has appeared with internationally known musicians such as Gary Thomas, Michael Formanek, and Jeff Reed. In addition to freelancing, Jon plays with several ensembles of a variety of different styles and sounds.

Jon also likes to focus on his own compositions and performs his own music regularly around Baltimore. Complete Breakfast, his piece for improvising violin and computer was recently honored with acceptance into the SEAMUS (Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States) 2006 national conference and was performed at the end of March of 2006 in Eugene, Oregon. He has released his first album as a leader, entitled “Flora Fauna” featuring Michael Formanek on bass and Devin Gray on drums.  In addition, he has released albums with improvising supergroup Subatomic Particles and local legends Soul Cannon.
