This is just a quick note about an interview for the upcoming Rhymes WIth Opera shows this weekend. I’m happy to announce a neat upcoming event. The Darius Jones Quintet (with me on piano) will be playing this Sunday, May 9th at the Eubie Blake cultural center here in Baltimore. We are opening for jazz piano legend Larry Willis. I am honored to have this opportunity not just to play, but to get to hear this living master. Although the price is a little steeper than most of my shows, I encourage you to check this out, if only because it’s going to be an exciting afternoon of music.

I went to hear my friends Whoarfrost play last night at Windup Space http://www.thewindupspace.com and was lucky enough to hear a cool band called High Life who were on tour and passing through. Very interesting sounds and nice concept. Really enjoyed hearing them check them out. You can find information about them on the frontman’s site, his name is Jason Ajemian and his website is here. http://www.jasonajemian.com Mad respect for putting their album out on VINYL(!) and if I had had some money I would have bought it. Sorry guys, next time.

I’m getting excited about some upcoming Soul Cannon performances with Rhymes With Opera, a neat and unconventional Opera company. Check out their website for more info and dates. Not only will Soul Cannon share the stage with them, but we will also be part of their pit orchestra. We just got the music and it looks awesome. Check their site or my calendar to see where we’ll be playing in an East coast city near YOU.

Also I realized half of my mouseovers on my links tab start with the word “cool.” I need some more adjectives – suggestions?

weekend update

OK the weekend is finally over and a lot of gigs and cool stuff happened. Great show in Philly on Friday night, thanks to The Fire for having us. The Lynchfest was a tremendous success – great time and costumes. I can’t wait to do it again next year. Also killing recital by Zach Swanson who is DONE (congratulations) at Peabody pretty much.

Today I’m pleased to announce that this Tuesday’s set at Out of Your Head has been written up, with photographs even! Incidentally, the first article is about Erik Spangler’s new work and all night performance, which Out of Your Head was also a part of. A great time was had by all at The Windup Space last night. Thanks to Cam Collins and Ethan Snyder for playing two awesome sets with me and special thanks to Adam Hopkins and Matt Frazao for curating this event. Also thanks to Russell DeOcampo for continuing to host this great event. Come out next Tuesday for a completely new band!

Changed a couple of links to some more current ones and added some others. Out of Your Head is an improvising collective that meets every Tuesday night at The Windup Space in Baltimore for two sets of improvised music by a group of musicians who have never played before who are members of the collective. Also I’d like to post some more links, so if you have any suggestions email me or leave a comment.
